The African Wealth Project is an open multi-disciplinary project that aims to explore the African and African Diaspora community’s identification with wealth within the context of decolonisation.
Wealth and value are intimately intertwined and each group or person will identify with the topic in their own way.
This project invites you to explore your interpretation and thoughts on “African wealth”; and become an active participant in a medium you see fit and can be shared on this website. Have you contemplated what “African wealth” means to you and your community? We invite you to share your views and outputs on this platform.
The aim of the project is to be a conversation starter, to engage people of African descent in a wider dialogue around wealth and identity, and to facilitate a creative medium of expression within that space.
The African Wealth Project (AWP) was born out of my socio-cultural exploration of African cultural identity, arbitrage, assimilation, and expression within the framework of underground and mainstream culture in music, art, and fashion. For this project, I am particularly interested in how the perception of wealth has played out in popular culture and how it has affected people of African descent motivations and values in current times.
